The route — over 19 hours long, connecting Heathrow Airport in London to Sydney — will be 11% longer than the current longest flight, which connects Singapore to New York and is operated by Singapore Airlines,
Singapore Airlines has long been a leader in ultra-long-haul flights, having operated the longest one for 16 out of the past 27 years.
The distance is 32% greater than in 1997, when South African Airways operated the longest flight at the time, connecting New York to Johannesburg. That's according to recent data published by aviation data provider OAG, which noted the longest route of the past 27 years, taking into consideration only services that operated at least twice weekly throughout the calendar year.
