Porsche's latest sports car uses an engine from a race car - tour the new 911 GT3

  • The 2022 Porsche 911 GT3's engine is almost identical to the one in the 911 GT3 Cup race car.
  • You can get the new GT3 with either a dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.
  • Porsche hasn't announced pricing for the GT3s, which should arrive at dealerships in the fall.

For most people, a Porsche 911 is enough. But for those dedicate themselves to track driving and need a tool with which to do it, the answer has always been the Porsche 911 GT3. Meet the 2022 GT3 - Porsche's newest track scalpel.

Unlike the rest of Porsche's current crop of turbocharged 911s, the GT3 uses a naturally aspirated flat-six engine that revs to a sky-reaching 9,000 RPM. It is basically the same engine found in the 911 race car, according to Porsche. It produces a claimed 502 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque.

Built extensively from lightweight materials and offering a manual transmission as an option (#savethemanuals), the GT3 represents the current pinnacle of driver engagement from the current 992-generation 911.

That is, unless Porsche builds the GT3 RS after this. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

For now, please enjoy the new, 2022 GT3. No pricing was announced at this time, but the cars will arrive at dealerships by the fall.
