Passengers' hats and belongings were sucked out of a Russian plane after one of the doors swung open shortly after takeoff, according to an airport's statement.
The charter flight on January 8 was operated by IrAero and had 25 passengers and six crew members on board, the carrier confirmed to the Independent.
Not long after taking off from Magan Airport, the plane's rear entry ramp door slid open while the aircraft was at around 9,000 ft, per the news outlet.
Some passengers lost hats and belongings when they were sucked out of the depressurized cabin.
"Fortunately, the 25 people on board, including the crew, were unharmed," a report from Magan airport said, via the Independent. "The caps off some people's heads flew into the white void."
The outlet added that passengers clung to their seats and pulled their hoods up.
The plane circled to land at the airport immediately after the incident, the Independent reported.
Representatives for IrAero and Magan airport did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
Sergei Lidrik, a passenger who said he was on board the flight and videoed the incident, told the New York Post: "People were shocked at first. People had their hats blown off."
An IrAero spokesperson told the Independent: "On January 9, 2023, at about 14:00 local time, an IrAero AN-26-100 aircraft with 25 passengers and 6 crew members was forced to return to the Magan departure airport (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)) due to a technical reason - depressurization of the hatch."
They added: "Now the plane is in Magan, the passengers are accommodated in a hotel. A commission has been created by the Yakutsk territorial division of the Federal Air Transport Agency, and an audit is underway."
