- The Viva is the upcoming Norwegian Prima's sister ship, which saw record bookings upon its debut.
On Wednesday, Norwegian Cruise Line unveiled the Norwegian Viva, its newest cruise ship complete with a go-kart track, food hall, and "ship-within-a-ship."

The unveil of Norwegian's latest vessel comes a day after the cruising giant canceled sailings aboard 11 of its ships, citing "ongoing travel restrictions" as COVID-19 continues to spread aboard cruise ships.

However, these disruptions haven't stopped the popular cruise line from unveiling its latest 965-foot long ship, the sixth in its Prime Class.

The new vessel was designed to be the sister ship of the Norwegian Prima, which will begin sailing this summer.

Viva's unveiling comes on the heels of its sister ship's success: The Prima saw record bookings when it was first announced last year, the cruise line said in May 2021.

The new Viva can accommodate up to nearly 3,220 passengers inside what will be the cruise line's largest inside, oceanview, and balcony staterooms yet.

These hotel rooms at sea include accommodations in the Haven by Norwegian, a more exclusive collection of 107 designer suites that range from about 370 to 2,100 square feet.

The Haven appeals to guests who want a more luxurious cruising experience with access to a butler, a private outdoor lounge, spa amenities, and a specialty Haven restaurant, lounge, and bars.

As Norwegian calls it, the Haven is a "ship-with-a-ship."

But if you're looking for a smaller, less expensive stateroom, opt for the studio.

At 94 square feet, the studio is Viva's smallest accommodation designed for solo travelers.

The Haven is only accessible via key card, but the new ship will still have other leisure and recreational options to keep all passengers entertained at sea.

For example, adults can bask in the sun at the Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only space with infinity hot tubs and a bar.

In June 2023, the Viva will begin sailing in the Mediterranean while homeporting out of European cities like Lisbon and Athens.

And during the 2023 to 2024 winter cruising season, the ship will move its homeport to San Juan for its Caribbean itineraries.

The Viva's first cruise, a nine-day sailing from Lisbon around the Mediterranean, starts at almost $2,100 per person for an inside stateroom.
