Norwegian Cruise Line cancels 7 months of sailings, refunds passengers
  • Norwegian Cruise Line canceled more than seven months of sailings on its Sun ship in 2025.
  • The cruise line says the voyages were canceled due to fleet redeployment.

Some Norwegian cruise passengers recently received a disappointing letter derailing their travel plans, USA Today reported on Wednesday.

The cruise line canceled nearly eight months of sailings on its Sun ship from March 28 to November 3, 2025, according to a letter to passengers obtained by USA Today.

"We sincerely appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you aboard very soon," the letter stated, according to the newspaper.

USA Today reports that passengers are receiving a full refund for the canceled voyages as well as 10% off their next Norwegian cruise.

The discount applies to sailings through 2025 that are currently available to book, according to the same source.

In the letter, USA Today reports that the cruise line cited a "fleet redeployment" as the reason for canceling.

Fleet redeployment refers to moving a ship to another location, according to a travel blog called Cruise Mummy.

On Thanksgiving Day, Business Insider reached out to the cruise line to find out why the ship is being redeployed. Representatives did not immediately respond.

The news comes after Norwegian canceled sailings on its Epic ship for the 2023-2024 winter season for the same reason — fleet redeployment, Travel Weekly reported in May.

Norwegian has been sailing for more than 56 years and currently has a fleet of 20 ships that journey to over 450 destinations, according to the cruise line's website.
