The building has a tower that is split into two parts — designed to mirror the relationship between Nike's cofounders, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman, according to architecture and design magazine, Dezeen. Buildings are connected via a series of sky bridges.

The structure is made up of the tall, central tower, with branches of the building spreading out from it like wings. The building is "inspired by Serena's greatness," according to the company. The wings reflect those of the Greek goddess of victory, Nike.

Nike said the building has facilities to allow design, insights and product-merchandising teams to work together 'for the first time.'

The building has a "US Open Café," adorned with murals by New York-based female artists. Six laser-cut wooden panels pay tribute to Williams' wins at the tournament.

Williams posted a video of the new building on Instagram on Wednesday and revealed she visited the Nike campus as a child. "After that visit, I knew I wanted two things: to be a Nike athlete and to have a building," she said.
