I enjoyed my time on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady. Lauren Mack
  • I sailed seven days on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady in November and loved my adults-only vacation.
  • Virgin Voyages isn't the cheapest, but it's a great value with fitness classes and specialty food.

I spent seven days on Virgin Voyages' Valiant Lady in November for $931, which comes to $133 a day.

We stopped at Roatán, Honduras; Costa Maya, Mexico; and Bimini, Bahamas. I booked an interior cabin, but it got upgraded to an obstructed-view balcony room — likely because the ship wasn't full when I sailed.

Although Virgin Voyages isn't the cheapest cruise line, it's a far better value than ones that cost double.

As a frequent cruiser, here's why I like sailing with Virgin Voyages so much.

I know exactly what my cruise will cost — and the price includes some nice perks.

A Virgin Voyages cruise comes with specialty dining.      Lauren Mack

Many of the expensive extras, like unlimited basic WiFi and gratuities, are included in the cost of a Virgin Voyages cruise.

Other cruise lines typically apply a daily crew gratuity that starts at about $15, but gratuities are already included on Virgin Voyages.

One of my favorite parts of the cruises is the large number of free, daily group fitness classes.

Many cruise lines only offer one or two complimentary fitness classes for the entire cruise, but Virgin Voyage offers more than 10 per day. They range from bungee classes to meditation sessions.

On many cruises, specialty dining costs extra. But, on Virgin Voyages, every restaurant is considered specialty dining. There's no extra cost to dine at special places like the steak house or Mexican restaurant.

Beverages like soda, sparkling water, and juice are complimentary.

The food is amazing.

I visited restaurants throughout my trip, and I didn't even get to try everywhere because I was so stuffed.      Lauren Mack

The made-to-order food I had during my trip was especially exceptional.

I also appreciate that Virgin Voyages has no buffet, main dining room, forced formal wear, assigned seating, or assigned dining times.

Instead, the ship has more than 20 eateries, ranging from quick-service spots in a food hall to steak houses and experimental restaurants.

Plus, Virgin Voyages has ShipEats, an onboard delivery service that features everything from Haribo gummy bears to grilled New York strip steak.

You must apply and get approved for Deep Blue Extras prior to your voyage.      Lauren Mack

Virgin Voyages will match your loyalty status from various cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line, to give you perks called Deep Blue Extras.

On this trip, I used my gold status on Disney Cruise Line to receive Deep Blue Extras, which included a $10-a-day specialty coffee credit, laundry service, premium WiFi, expedited boarding, and more.

Only one person in a stateroom needs to apply for the loyalty match, and you need to be approved before a voyage to get perks.

What's not included? Children.

What
I love that Virgin Voyages is only for adults.      Lauren Mack

I love children, but sometimes I want a child-free trip.

It might sound like this is a cruise filled with DINKs, grandparents, and the childless, but think again.

On my cruise, dozens of parents left their children at home (there's even children's merch in the gift shop for parents who enjoyed a kid-free getaway).

There are lots of (good) surprises and things here you won't see anywhere else.

Virgin Voyages had plenty of parties and performers on my trip.      Lauren Mack

Virgin Voyages has the look of a luxury yacht and the feel of a boutique hotel at sea — with surprises around many corners.

There are roving performers, including magicians and sketch artists, who appear in public venues.

Virgin Voyages also has tattoo parlors, record shops, and IV hydration-therapy stations on board.

If you open the ship's app and shake your phone, you can order bubbly through an on-demand delivery service. In each stateroom, you can swipe a tablet to create mood lighting.

And, if you're lucky, you may even get invited to secret soirées.

I attended a magic show and stuck around after to speak to the magician. I, and the handful of other guests, received invites to a secret 30-minute magic show held in a bar in the crew quarters a few days later.

Virgin Voyages also has unique events and programming that keep me on my toes.

Scarlet Night was epic on my Virgin Voyages cruise.      Lauren Mack

Nearly every cruise line has bingo, but activities are different on cruises with Virgin Voyages.

In my experience, the cruise line offers a more elevated, intimate, cheeky, and playful array of entertainment than what I've seen on many other ships.

There are sexy circus acts, drag bingo, and private karaoke rooms. The ship also has glam stations where you can get bedazzled with gems before a night out on the high seas.

The campy, eclectic entertainment shows also keep me on my toes.

At shows like "Untitled DanceShowPartyThing," I spent most of the time trying to figure out what was happening, but I was enthralled every minute.
