  • Patrick Carroll posted clips of himself firing a gun outside his waterfront mansion in Miami.
  • Police ordered the real-estate tycoon to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, a report says.

Police ordered the real-estate mogul Patrick Carroll to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and give up his firearms following reports of gunshots at his home last week.

Police arrived at his home after neighbors reported hearing gunshots coming from his backyard.

Carroll had also posted a since-deleted clip of himself on Instagram, shared by The Real Deal, showing him standing on a boat wearing a red MAGA hat and firing a gun.

Carroll later told The Real Deal that he wasn't shooting live rounds and that he had spoken to police.

"They were laughing about it. I was doing it for a video," he said.

Christopher Bess, a Miami Beach Police Department spokesperson, confirmed to Page Six that police had taken Carroll to a local healthcare facility for a mental-health check and that a "risk protection order" had been served.

Bess added that the investigation is "ongoing."

Page Six reported on March 21 that police picked up Carroll under Florida's Baker Act, which allows the "temporary detention" of people impaired by "mental illness."

Business Insider has reached out to the Miami Police Department for comment.

The mogul moved to Miami Beach in 2022

Carroll moved to Miami Beach in February 2022, when he purchased a $16.3 million waterfront home on Lakeview Drive.

The 7,951-square-foot property has seven bedrooms and 6 ½ bathrooms, Forbes reported.

The home also has a 90-foot infinity-edge pool and its own boat dock, from which Carroll appeared to film his Instagram Story last week.

Carroll has cultivated a reputation for outlandish behavior in recent years.

Last year, he was accused of spitting in a restaurant manager's face, The Real Deal reported.

Page Six reported in 2022 that Carroll got into a scrap with the biotech billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli while at a star-studded party in Capri, Italy. Other unnamed sources told Page Six that Bertarelli wasn't involved in an altercation at the party.
