The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were at the Global Citizen Live charity concert in Central Park on Saturday as part of their tour of New York City.

Meghan Markle attended the event in a knee-length Valentino dress embroidered with floral patterns. It costs £3,300, or about $4,500, at the London department store Harrods.

She accessorized with a £3,450 Christian Dior Lady D-Lite handbag that had a hidden tribute to her royal roots.

The bag, launched in 1994, became one of the brand's most popular designs after Princess Diana wore it in 1995, Marie Claire reported. The publication added that Bernadette Chirac, then France's first lady, had given it to Diana as a gift.

Diana was photographed with the bag on multiple occasions, leading Dior to rename it in her honor, Marie Claire reported.

Markle's bag appeared to be personalized with "DSSOS," the initials of her royal title, Duchess of Sussex, The Sun reported. A spokesperson for Dior confirmed to Insider that Markle carried the Lady D-Lite bag and that it was personalized with the duchess' title.

Markle and Harry stopped using their HRH titles after resigning from royal duties last year, but they're still permitted to use the Sussex dukedom.

It wasn't clear whether the bag had been gifted to the duchess or whether she'd had it customized herself.

Representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

"My wife and I believe the way you are born should not dictate your ability to survive," Harry told the crowd, according to Us Weekly.

"Especially when the treatments exist to keep you safe," Markle added.

The duke and duchess had numerous other engagements during their visit to the city, including a trip to One World Observatory and a roundtable with the World Health Organization.
