MacKenzie Scott, Jeff Bezos' former wife, has given two Beverly Hills mansions worth about $55 million to a housing charity.
The California Community Foundation said the donation by the 52-year-old billionaire and philanthropist would allow it to create more affordable housing in Los Angeles.
The Amazon founder and Scott bought one of the mansions in 2007 for $24.4 million. The Spanish-style villa has seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a greenhouse, a tennis court, swimming pool, four fountains, and a six-car garage.
A decade later the couple bought another 4,568 sq ft home on the same street for $12.9 million.
One of the world's richest women, Scott's fortune mostly stems from her 4% stake in Amazon stake she obtained after divorcing Bezos in 2019. The holding was worth roughly $38 billion at the time.
Her net worth topped $60 billion when Amazon shares climbed in 2020 but is now worth just under $40 billion, according to Forbes.
It is the second time Scott has assisted the California Community Foundation following her $20 million donation last year to establish the LA Arts Endowment Fund.
In a blog post in March Scott she said she had donated almost $3.9 billion to 465 nonprofits in the previous nine months, bringing the total to more than $12 billion to charitable causes and groups.
In the post on Medium she wrote: "Our team's focus over these last nine months has included some new areas, but as always our aim has been to support the needs of underrepresented people from groups of all kinds. The cause of equity has no sides."
The groups receiving donations included the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Planned Parenthood, and Habitat for Humanity.
