  • Louis Vuitton is releasing a light-sensitive face shield on October 30, to be sold in select Louis Vuitton stores worldwide.
  • The retail price of the face shield hasn't been revealed yet.
  • Louis Vuitton is now the second major luxury brand producing high-end face coverings for sale — Burberry announced its $120 face masks last month.

Louis Vuitton is set to release a light-sensitive face shield on October 30 in select Louis Vuitton retailers worldwide, according to the brand.

While, the New York Post reported that the face shield were listed for £750 ($961), a representative for Louis Vuitton denied this pricing and told Business Insider that no price has been announced yet.

Per a press release, the shield will feature the brand's signature monogrammed pattern and have gold studs. It will also be photochromatic, allowing for the shield to transition from clear to dark when it comes into contact with direct sunlight. The shield can also turn into a hat when the visor is flipped up.

Louis Vuitton is the second major luxury brand to start selling high-end face coverings

Burberry announced in August that it would begin selling £90 ($120) face masks featuring its signature tartan print, with 20% of the selling price of each mask going towards coronavirus relief via the Burberry Foundation COVID-19 Community Fund.

Earlier in the year, major luxury brands shied away from releasing high-end protective gear and instead pivoted to producing PPE and other necessary goods for the essential workers fighting the pandemic.

In early April, Louis Vuitton repurposed its French factories to make non-surgical masks. Its parent company, LVMH, also announced that its factories which typically make perfumes and cosmetics would be used to make alcohol-based sanitizers, given free of charge to French healthcare workers, Business Insider previously reported.

LVMH also pledged 40 million face masks to France, as health care professionals worldwide dealt with a shortage of medical supplies. Louis Vuitton donated 21,000 N95 masks to New York City as it became the epicenter of the pandemic in the United States this spring.
