Jenna Marbles' boyfriend says he's suspending his YouTube channel, podcast, and Twitch stream
- Jenna Marbles' long-time partner Julien Solomita posted a statement about his girlfriend leaving the platform on Friday, confirming that he will also be taking a break from his own channel.
- Solomita said the two needed time to figure out the future of their shared podcast and their shared Twitch channel, too.
- "Jenna is the strongest person i know. but no single person is meant to handle the pressure of pleasing the entire internet week in and week out for a decade," Solomita wrote. "if anyone deserves a walk into the sunset it's jenna [sic]."
Julian Solomita, the long-time partner of Jenna Mourey — the YouTuber known as Jenna Marbles — addressed his girlfriend's departure from the platform in an emotional note on Friday posted to TwitLonger. In it, Solomita confirmed he would be taking a break from his own channel, which has nearly 2.5 million subscribers on its own — Mourey's has over 20 million, and she was the most subscribed-to female YouTuber for several years.
Solomita wrote that he'll be "be returning to the internet," but needed time for "taking care" of Mourey, who tearfully announced she would leave YouTube indefinitely in an apology video for old, offensive content on her channel. Solomita also addressed the couple's joint podcast and Twitch stream, and said they "don't have a definite answer" about the future of both ventures.
"Jenna is the strongest person i know. but no single person is meant to handle the pressure of pleasing the entire internet week in and week out for a decade," Solomita wrote. "The mental and emotional toll that takes. and the conflicting emotions at play when she inevitably makes the decision to step away. that decision has come. [sic]"
He continued on to say that Mourey is entering a "new chapter" that will allow her to "feel like a person again," writing that a "massive weight" has fallen on Mourey's shoulders.
"If anyone deserves a walk into the sunset it's jenna," Solomita wrote. "She's been a beacon of light for so many people. she's shared her humility, kindness and love with all of you. she's allowed you into her life with open arms and internet hugs. now it's time jenna takes care of jenna. [sic]"
Solomita also thanked friends and fans for sharing messages of support after Mourey's video on Thursday, which included the OG YouTuber apologizing for old, since-"privated" videos of her imitating rapper Nicki Minaj, rapping racist lyrics about Asian men in a parody song, and making comments that "slut shamed" women.
Many of Mourey's OG YouTube peers expressed support for her and praised her content on Twitter after the video, including Joey Graceffa, Anthony Padilla, and Hank Green.
