So far, Fiat Chrysler's electrified offerings in the United States have lagged behind the competition. But we can soon expect the plug-in hybrid version of the Jeep Wrangler, reports MotorTrend.
Following a 2020 FCA annual shareholder meeting, the outlet's Alisa Priddle reported that the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid will be globally unveiled during the third quarter of 2020, according to CEO Mike Manley.
Manley said, "The vehicle will arrive in our showrooms in the [US] by the end of this year and in Europe and China early next year."
The official Jeep Twitter account tweeted a short teaser on August 22.

Notice that Jeep is playing up the silent driving factor here — which surely indicates that the upcoming Wrangler 4xe will have an EV-only driving mode.
Not much else about the new model is known, officially. But being a plug-in hybrid, it'll obviously have some kind of electric motor working in conjunction with its gasoline engine. MotorTrend guessed that the electric motor would be matched with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the existing Wrangler and that the 4xe will produce up to 31 miles of EV-only driving.
A Jeep spokesperson declined Business Insider's requests for additional information.
Currently, FCA's only electrified offerings include the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan and the Fiat 500e, the latter of which was discontinued last year. The automaker has said it will commit to launching 30 electrified models by 2022, according to MotorTrend.
