The Boring Company celebrated the near completion of its first real project with a "tunnel rave."

A short video tweeted by the company Friday shows three white Tesla vehicles parked in the cavernous loading area for the Las Vegas Convention Center connector while lights flash and an Avicii song plays. The 0.8-mile long tunnels to the other side of the building appear to be similarly illuminated.

The system's set to open in January following a three-month delay, when the normally 15-minute walk will be reduced to about a minute, the city's visitors association said. It'll be a much-needed proof of concept for the Boring Company after earlier planned projects in Los Angeles and Chicago fizzled out.

But while the flashy tunnels make for a fun trip from one end of a massive event space to the other, there's concern the project won't move nearly as many people as originally promised. Documents obtained by TechCrunch in October show a capacity of just 1,200 passengers per hour, well below the 4,400 target, due to fire regulations.

What's more, the Tesla vehicles transporting those conference-goers won't be autonomous as originally planned: "It's basically just Teslas in tunnels at this point," Musk said in October.

It's not slowing the Boring Company down though. It recently took the first steps to getting a network connecting the entire Las Vegas Strip approved.
