Elon Musk promises a Cybertruck update in January: 'This year has been such a supply chain nightmare and it's not over!'

• Elon Musk said he would give an update on the much-delayed Cybertruck on Tesla's next earnings call.
• The futuristic vehicle was previously kicked from 2021 into 2022 amid production challenges.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk will have news about the availability of the much-delayed Cybertruck when the company reports its 2021 earnings – which traditionally happens in January – Musk said in a tweet on Monday afternoon.

"Oh man, this year has been such a supply chain nightmare & it's not over!," he said in response to a request for information about the vehicle's outlook. "I will provide an updated product roadmap on next earnings call."

Musk's comment also indicates that he will be returning to Tesla's quarterly investor presentation after he was notably absent from the third-quarter results in October.

The tweets were part of a thread discussing the steering yoke of a Model S Plaid, which Musk said would be an available option on the Cybertruck.

"Cybertruck is intentionally an insane technology bandwagon," he said. "Cybertruck will reach far into a post-apocalyptic future & bring that technology to now."

Since it was originally announced two years ago, the futuristic vehicle has seen its production and delivery estimates pushed back from 2021 into 2022.

In August, Tesla's pre-order page for the Cybertruck was updated to say that customers will be able to complete their configuration selections "as production nears in 2022."

Previously in July, Musk tweeted that he didn't care whether the Cybertruck sold well.

"To be frank, there is always some chance that Cybertruck will flop, because it is so unlike anything else," he said. "I don't care. I love it so much even if others don't."
