Popular Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect, whose real name is Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV, was banned from the platform on Friday, June 26, according to Kotaku, citing several sources close to Twitch.

The streamer, whose currently defunct channel had over 4 million followers, also recently signed an exclusive, multiyear streaming contract with Twitch, as was announced in March 2020. Although the precise figures weren't disclosed, The Verge's Bijan Stephen reported that it was "for a lot of money."

Beahm's account disappeared Friday, causing speculation that he had been banned. What actually happened is still shrouded in mystery.

Esports journalist Rod "Slasher" Breslau reported on Twitter that sources had told him that Dr Disrespect had been permanently banned from Twitch, following up to say that it was not for DMCA-related reasons. Twitch streamer Shannon "ShannonZKiller" Plante also alleged on Twitter that Dr Disrespect had been permanently banned from the platform, saying that she "[knows] why and cannot say" but that it's "serious." Kotaku also reported that a sources close to Twitch said he had been permanently banned.

When asked for comment, a Twitch spokesperson did not explicitly confirm the ban, clarify the duration of the ban, or give specific reasons for the ban, saying, "As is our process, we take appropriate action when we have evidence that a streamer has acted in violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. These apply to all streamers regardless of status or prominence in the community."

On Saturday, Beahm appeared to confirm a suspension or ban on Twitter, writing, "Twitch has not notified me on the specific reason behind their decision... Firm handshakes to all for the support during this difficult time."

If Dr Disrespect is indeed banned, it wouldn't be the first time. He was notably given a two-week ban from the platform after livestreaming from the bathrooms of E3, the biggest gaming event of the year. He later issued an apology, saying that he and his team had been too focused on "authenticity" and failed to consider the legal repercussions of streaming from a bathroom.

This piece was updated on June 28, 2020 to include Dr Disrespect's tweet about the incident.
