  • Brittany Johnson, aka Lovely Peaches, has been a controversial social-media figure for almost five years.
  • She recently posted videos of herself claiming she had broken her dog's legs.
  • Many onlookers were outraged, and the police later said that she had been arrested.

Brittany Johnson, best known for her social-media persona Lovely Peaches, has been a notorious internet figure for nearly five years. She's made numerous controversial statements, such as that she hired someone to assault the TikTok star Charli D'Amelio.

Now Johnson has found herself in more hot water: She was arrested after posting disturbing photos and videos about her dog.

On January 20, people on social media spread videos Johnson had posted on Instagram in which she appeared to pick her dog up by the neck and spray perfume in its face. She also claimed to have broken her dog's legs.

While the videos are no longer on Instagram, Twitter users recorded and reshared them.

Def Noodles, a YouTuber who frequently covers influencer drama, posted a blurred version of the video, describing it as "very upsetting to watch."

Many accounts reposting the videos called for the dog to be taken away from Johnson and for her to face charges. Some Twitter users said they had called the police.

Johnson fanned the flames when she posted on Instagram on Thursday that her dog had died. The caption said "As I Posted On My Personal Max is no Longer With Us Rip Buddy."

Johnson was arrested on a charge of cruelty to animals

After the posts spread, Johnson was arrested on a charge of cruelty to animals, according to police records reviewed by Insider and a statement published by the website TooFab. Her dog is still alive, the police said.

"Until her case is concluded, she is not allowed to own or care for any animals," a DeKalb County Police Department representative told TooFab. "Meanwhile, her Jack Russell Terrier was taken into custody by Animal Services, where it was examined by a veterinarian and Johnson voluntarily signed over custody."

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office confirmed to Insider that, as of Wednesday, she is currently still in custody. She was granted bond and will be released dependent on whether or not she can pay. According to the Sheriff's Office, no trial date has been set yet.

Lovely Peaches' content has been perceived by some of her fans as satire, but her antics have gotten progressively more outrageous.

She gained fame on social media in 2016 and has been able to keep a following through multiple accounts on various platforms after her pages were suspended or banned. It's unclear how many social-media accounts she actually has - when she's been banned, she's made a new account with a slightly different handle.

Johnson has been known to mobilize her fan base to support her. She's been embroiled in many other controversies, including over claims she's made about how she treats her daughter.

Johnson did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
