New Yorkers headed to the Berkshires for a summer weekend getaway can kiss their road trips and tedious bus rides goodbye: This summer, Amtrak will launch a route from New York City to the popular Massachusetts vacation destination.
Beginning July 8, Amtrak will operate weekend services between New York City's Penn Station and Pittsfield, Massachusetts in Berkshire County, the home of museums, hiking trails, and luxury hotels.

"This critical link will boost our regional economy through tourism and by allowing us to base more remote workers in the Berkshires," Massachusetts Sen. Adam Hinds said in a press release.
This pilot service will be used to determine the route's demand, which will run on tracks owned by railroad company CSX
