America's 400 wealthiest people added $240 billion to their net worths in the past 12 months despite the pandemic
  • While the coronavirus pandemic devastated the personal finances of millions of people, America's 400 wealthiest billionaires added $240 billion to their collective net worth over the past 12 months, Forbes reported.
  • Amazon's Jeff Bezos grew his fortune 57% to $179 billion over the past year, more than any other billionaire on the Forbes 400.
  • 2020 marks Bezos' third consecutive year in the list's top spot.
  • Only one woman makes it into the ranks of America's richest people: Alice Walton, Walmart heiress, has a net worth of $62.3 billion, making her the 10th-richest person in the US.
  • The Forbes 400, an exclusive segment of the three-comma club with net worths over $2.1 billion, are worth a record $3.2 trillion combined.
  • Not everyone on the Forbes 400 profited over the past 12 months, however. Some billionaires, like Warren Buffett and Sheldon Adelson, lost billions as their industries were devastated by the pandemic.
