A woman warmed the hearts of TikTok users when she shared an emotional interaction she had after asking her father whether he preferred his children or grandchildren. She said her dad's thoughtful response healed her "inner child."

In the video, which has been viewed nearly a million times since it was posted last week, @finding_torrie recalled the conversation that she said took place at a Mother's Day brunch.

She said her father's response to the question "surprised" her.

"Not more, but different," he had said, according to her. "When I look at your daughter, my grandchild, I don't see her the way you see her, I see her as a whole person."

When she asked her father to clarify what he meant, he said he had watched her grow and transform from a baby to a woman firsthand, so it was easy for him to see her child in her full essence.

"When he looks at my daughter, he not only sees this beautiful baby, he sees and loves everything she is and ever will be because he's already seen it in me," the TikToker said.

The TikToker, who seemed on the verge of tears thinking about the exchange, ended the video by urging viewers to "ask your parents questions" because "their answers might be really healing," she said. The clip was tagged "inner child healing."

The comment section was full of viewers touched by the story and the simple intergenerational love.

"What's healing for me is knowing that there are people who have truly loving parents," one commenter wrote. "Please thank your dad for me."

While most people were endeared, some said that if they followed suit and asked their parents these kinds of questions, it probably would not be healing for them.

"Don't worry ladies I don't need to stitch this saying 'this isn't for us' we already know," one person wrote with laughing emojis.

The video also received some duet stitches from people sharing how their relationship with their parents is much more fraught. The TikToker made a short video acknowledging those duets and wrote in a comment that just because her dad possessed emotional intelligence didn't mean they weren't working through their own trauma. She said he had previously made comments that weren't "super healing" for her to hear.

In another follow-up TikTok, @finding_torrie shared a text exchange from her father when she shared the news that their moment had gone viral. She told him she valued how close they were and said she was lucky to have a dad like him.

"It would be quite an accomplishment NOT to love a daughter like you to the moon and back," he wrote in response.

"Crying in daddy issues again," a commenter wrote.
