A TikToker says she knows whether you're a millennial or a Gen Zer based on your socks

Gen Z would never be caught dead in this millennial-style staple, according to one video sparking a debate on TikTok.

"Fit(ish)" podcast host Phoebe Parsons, a pilates instructor who discusses health and fitness, shared a TikTok video Tuesday saying millennials tend to wear ankle socks, while their younger counterparts wear socks that extend past the ankles. The video garnered 1.6 million views and more than 3,100 comments.

In the video, Parsons said you can tell what generation someone belongs to "just by looking at their feet."

"Are their socks up, or are they wearing hidden ankle socks?" Parsons asks in the video before breaking down the difference.

Some users agreed with Parsons' take.

"If they'd been as aggressively bullied over the smallest hint of sock as we were, they'd never dare," one person wrote, referring to some millennials' aversion to non-ankle socks.

Another added that "ankle socks becoming hugely popular was a game changer for me and I'll never go back. Socks any higher are a sensory nightmare."

Other users said they couldn't relate.

Socks have now joined items like skinny jeans and high-waisted shorts in the generational fashion debate online. Videos comparing the millennials and Gen Z are popular on TikTok, where people have discussed topics like dancing, slang, and approach to humor.

The discussion also extended to interior design trends that appeal to Gen Zers and millennials.
