Hudson Valley-based startup Den Outdoors sells homebuilding kits for tiny home and cabins that can be added to properties.
These accessory dwelling units, also known as ADUs, have become increasingly popular during the pandemic as Americans reimagine homeownership.
ADUs, including the homes that Den designs, have a different address from the main house on the property.
Den has 38 basic floor plans but customers can customize their ADUs based on their needs, founder Michael Romanowicz told Insider.
To begin the process, they can select a homebuilding kit on the company's website.
The company's homebuilding kits provide customers with detailed construction layouts and a step-by-step guide on how to build.
Customers can choose between two different homebuilding kits: the starter kit ($199) and the complete package ( $1,995 to $4,195).
The starter kit includes information on elevation, foundation requirements, and window and door installations.
The complete package features everything in the starter kit with the addition of roof and floor planning, a 3D model, electrical and plumbing details, and equipment to execute the project.
The building kits also provides customers a non-transferable license that, depending on local ordinances, can act as authorization to build a single ADU on their property.
The company has recently started offering a service that, for an extra fee, streamlines the homebuilding process by sourcing materials, builders, and contractors.

For each of Den's projects, the average price per square foot is around $240.
Den's most popular model, the A-frame house, has two stories with high ceilings and ample living space.
The 1,000-square-foot A-frame house comes with two bedrooms — a bunk bedroom and a lofted master suite.
It also has two full bathrooms, a kitchen, and a laundry closet.
Den's second-best seller is the eastern farmhouse. The model is a 1,632-square-foot home with three bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms.

Like the A-frame model, it can host up to eight guests.
Den's 325-square-foot outpost model is one of its most innovative designs. Its unique roofline creates a soaring ceiling.

The 1,000-square-foot essential house is a modern take on a traditional home.
According to Den, the materials needed to build the home can be locally sourced, making it one of the easier models to construct.
The model comes with two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchen, a laundry closet, and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Den's 144-square-foot tiny house 2.0 sleeps up to two guests and has a single bathroom.
What tiny house 2.0 lacks in space it makes up for in design.
It's an upgrade of one of Den's original models, and has been the blueprint for many of the company's recent designs.
The office model is ideal for remote workers or those who want a backyard getaway.
At only 130 square feet, the model has no bedroom or bathroom but comes with lounge space and ample book storage.
The model boasts a full wall of glass and a wood-burning stove.
It is also on-grid and off-grid compatible.
