A tourist died after he bungee jumped 764 feet from a tower in Macau, China, Hong Kong's HK01 reported.

The 56-year-old Japanese man jumped from Macau Tower on Sunday. After completing the jump, he experienced shortness of breath and emergency services were called, per HK01.

He was taken to Conde S. Januário Hospital but was later pronounced dead, per HK01. It's not clear if the man, who has not been named, suffered from any health conditions.

The 1,109-foot Macau Tower is the highest commercial bungee jump facility, according to Guinness World Records. Visitors leap from the tower's Skypark, which is 764 feet high.

According to the tower's safety advisory, people with health conditions including high blood pressure, asthma, and diabetes should inform staff before bungee jumping.

AJ Hackett Macau Tower, which operates the Skypark, said in a statement it was saddened by the "medical situation" that occurred after the man's jump and offered its deepest condolences to his family.

"When our staff received word that he was feeling unwell after landing, they immediately administered first aid and called the authorities for help. The company is cooperating with relevant government departments," it said.

The incident follows several bungee jumping fatalities in recent years. In July 2021, a Colombian woman died after she fell 164 feet while bungee jumping. In January 2018, a woman died after bungee jumping at an indoor park in Colorado.
