From electrical tape to sticky notes, a flight attendant says items from a dollar store make both traveling and flying easier.@cici.inthesky/TikTok
- CiCi has been a flight attendant at a major airline for more than five years.
- She told Insider she never flies without certain items from a dollar store.
Beyond a love for flying, packing, and all things aviation-related, flight attendant CiCi also loves a good deal.
That's why she heads to the dollar store, where she has found a handful of $1.25 items that she always packs in her carry-on.
CiCi, who asked Insider to omit her full name and the airline she works for, for privacy reasons, recently shared her dollar-store packing list, which includes items that help with both flying and hotel stays. Take a look.
For a flight, CiCi always packs some sort of lotion.

CiCi has been documenting all the travel tips she's learned through her job as a flight attendant on TikTok and Instagram under the username @cici.inthesky.
Whether it's from a store like Target or Dollar Tree, CiCi said she's always stocking up on lotion.
That's because airplane cabins tend to be very dry. Since CiCi often spends 10-plus-hour days in this dry environment, she always prioritizes staying hydrated and moisturized.
She lathers on the lotion to help combat this and encourages travelers to pack lotion too, especially if it's a long flight, she said.
She'll also buy alcohol wipes, which she uses in multiple ways on a flight.

Perhaps the most obvious, CiCi grabs alcohol wipes to sanitize her airplane seat.
She'll wipe down the tray table, TV screen, and armrests once she's situated in her seat, she said.
But that's not the only way she uses the alcohol wipes. She said the scent of alcohol helps some passengers combat nausea, which may happen during a flight with turbulence.
When this happens, CiCi grabs a wipe and sniffs it until she feels her nausea slowly disappear.
CiCi said travelers are always asking if they can give flight attendants gifts, and the dollar store is the ideal place to shop for goodies.

CiCi said some travelers love to pass out treats and small gifts to thank their flight attendants.
It's something CiCi loves to receive, but she said it's also something she loves to give when she's a traveler.
Since everything is affordable at a dollar store, CiCi said it's her go-to place to pick up treats to gift flight attendants.
"There's tons of candy there," CiCi said, adding that flight attendants appreciate packaged and sealed candy.
She always buys and packs electrical tape when she's heading to a hotel room.

CiCi told Insider she's a light sleeper who prefers total darkness. But in hotel rooms, total darkness rarely exists.
"Sometimes there are lights that come on from the TV or the WiFi router or on alarm clocks," CiCi said, adding that she'll use pieces of electrical tape to cover those lights.
"I'm so sensitive that I like to have it pitch dark," she said.
A set of clips from the dollar store is always in CiCi's suitcase.

CiCi said you can find clips in a few different areas of the dollar store, but they're typically near the Tupperware or food storage section.
While these clips are used to keep items like chip bags closed, CiCi uses them to keep hotel curtains closed instead.
Since she loves the darkness, having a few small clips in her carry-on ensures that the curtains will stay closed throughout the night.
When she's not using the clips for her hotel curtains, they're keeping the cords to her phone, laptop, and headphones organized.
Finally, CiCi uses sticky notes both on a plane and in her hotel room.

As a flight attendant, CiCi said she knows how much a small gesture can mean to a flight crew.
That's why she always packs sticky notes when she travels.
While she waits to board the airplane or once she's in the air, CiCi will spend a little time writing each of the flight attendants a small thank-you note.
Once she's off the plane, the sticky notes continue to come in handy.
CiCi said she'll use the notes to remind herself of anything she might forget in her hotel room.
"A lot of times people will leave stuff in the closet or refrigerator — a place that's not right there in front of you," CiCi said. "You can put a Post-it note on your door for reminders."
CiCi started the practice five years ago. On one of her first hotel stays as a flight attendant, she accidentally left behind an expensive battery charger for her phone.
"Never again," CiCi remembers thinking. So after that, she always leaves sticky note reminders on her hotel door.
