A dispute over a messy $200 birthday cake has TikTokers divided after the buyer called it the worst she'd ever seen
  • A woman ordered a $200 cake for her granddaughter's birthday.
  • But she was disappointed with the result, calling it "the worst cake" she'd ever seen.

The uneven, messy $200 cake a woman bought for her granddaughter's first birthday has divided people on TikTok, with some calling it "atrocious," and others saying her expectations were far too high.

A woman named Khrissy posted a TikTok on Wednesday showing off the cake she had purchased for $200.

"This was supposed to be my granddaughter's first birthday cake. I spent well over $200 on this cake and this is what I got," she said, showing off the bumpy, pastel colored cake that was leaning to one side and covered in crumbs.

"This is the worst cake I have ever seen in my life."

Khrissy said when she told the baker what she thought of the final result, she said they informed her: "Well I will admit it was a lot harder than I thought it would be."

Khrissy explained the fake plants that were attached haphazardly to the cake were meant to be made out of fondant icing, and the whole cake was supposed to have a fairy theme. She said she also found some hair in the cake.

In the caption, Khrissy said her granddaughter "loves fairies" and the cake was ordered to be a representation of her.

"I was so upset," she said.

In another video, Khrissy showed what the cake was supposed to look like — a fairy cottage design featuring toadstools and other natural, woodland imagery.

Some people in the comments thought Khrissy's expectations had been too high for the price point.

"As a cake decorator: this is a $800 cake," one person wrote about the design Khrissy had expected.

"I would have charged at least $800+ for the inspiration cake," another person wrote. "$200 is what all the ingredients cost for a cake that large."

Many others put the price point at $800-$1,000, citing how "elaborate and time consuming" it was.

However, many also called the cake Khrissy ended up with "horrendous," and that it looked like "Play-Doh." Some also said the baker should have been upfront about their skills.

"Regardless of what the price should be, the baker gave her a price and said she could deliver!!" one person said.

Another said regardless of how much it should have cost, "the baker should have been honest before accepting any money."

Some also referenced the "Kylie Cakes" saga — a dispute between a baker and customer over a sprinkle-covered rainbow cake that spiraled out of control on TikTok earlier this year and led to angry strangers review-bombing the business.

The furor was coined CakeGate and left a legacy of being brought up any time someone brings their cake woes to the platform.

Khrissy gave an update on Friday, saying the baker had refunded her $100.

"I still have to smile and laugh," she wrote in the caption. "You have to laugh when all else fails."
