A 'disgruntled' JetBlue passenger called in a bomb threat after missing his flight from Las Vegas to LA, authorities say

A passenger who was angry that he missed his JetBlue flight from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Los Angeles, California, called in a bomb threat on Thursday, authorities said.

Airport officials told ABC News affiliate KABC-TV that the passenger, who has not been publicly identified, missed his flight from Las Vegas but that his luggage remained onboard the plane.

The man then phoned in a bomb threat, saying his luggage contained explosives, resulting in firefighters, police, and bomb squad personnel gathering on the tarmac at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), KABC-TV reported.

"At approximately 2 p.m. today, May 4th, a disgruntled passenger who missed his flight made a statement indicating that his luggage contained a possible bomb on the JetBlue flight number 879 from Las Vegas," an air traffic official said, according to KVVU.

Passengers onboard were stuck on the plane at LAX for more than an hour, the news outlet reported.

They were then evacuated via a truck-mounted staircase and transported onto shuttle buses, with the aircraft moved to an isolated spot on the far end of the runway, away from the gate, per KABC-TV.

LAX Police Department investigated to ensure the luggage was bomb-free, with police determining after a couple of hours that there were no explosives found in the luggage or on the aircraft, per KSNV.

The passenger who missed his flight was taken into custody by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, with KVVU reporting that police took "enforcement action against the subject."

Las Vegas Police, JetBlue, and the LAX Police Department did not respond to Insider's requests for comment.
