Martha Stewart has taught Snoop Dogg plenty of dishes, and one of his favorites is a chicken recipe she learned in prison.
In 2004, Stewart was convicted on multiple felony charges, which came after she sold off stock shares a day before their value plunged in 2001, avoiding a loss of more than $45,000, according to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Prosecutors said she later lied about receiving the tip-off, the Associated Press reported.
Stewart spent five months in a minimum-security prison, followed by five months of home confinement. She was also fined $30,000.
Stewart told Katie Couric in 2017 that the experience of prison was a "very, very awful" thing. However, Snoop Dogg recently told Insider that his best friend did pick up some new skills — and recipes — while she was behind bars.
"She told me that one of the homegirls gave her some sort of recipe that when she got out she used, and it was effective and it was dope," Snoop Dogg said. "You meet some talented people behind the wall, you gotta know that."
Snoop Dogg said the recipe involved submerging chicken in water to leave in the refrigerator overnight and then coating it in buttermilk.
"That shit was amazing. We cooked it on the show," the rapper said. "It was good, it was soft, it was crispy."
The technique is seen in Stewart's buttermilk fried chicken, which Snoop told Insider in a previous interview is the best dish his BFF has ever made for him.
"It takes a whole day to make because you got to let it sit in the water," he said. "I still don't know how to make it, but that dish right there is a dish that I would love to perfect."
Snoop Dogg has also taught Stewart plenty of cooking tips and tricks during their 15-year friendship. Stewart told Insider in a previous interview that the best dish he ever showed her how to make was Lobster Newburg.
Stewart said she was "shocked" when the rapper created his own version of the recipe — a New England classic that combines lobster with sherry.
"He won't touch a lobster, but he will cook Lobster Newburg," she said. "I thought that was really funny."
While they always have a blast together in the kitchen, Snoop Dogg said he never shares "thirst trap" tips with Stewart and has no plans to try and set her up with one of his famous friends.
"She's picky," he told Insider. "I wouldn't dream of trying to set her up unless I met a fucking trillionaire. I don't want that on my record that I brought somebody that she can't stand. No way."
