Skit or not, internet users are horrified by a man who appeared to cook shrimp and mashed potatoes in a plane bathroom
  • Internet users are discussing plane etiquette after a viral TikTok video.
  • Footage showed a man cooking shrimp and instant mashed potatoes in a plane bathroom.

A man who appeared to board an airplane and cook a meal inside the bathroom sink has left internet users gasping in horror.

TikTok user barfly7777 uploaded a video on Friday showing him arriving at an airport and boarding what appeared to be a Delta Airlines flight. The man's no stranger to cooking food in weird spaces. His account is full of videos showing his cooking skills in places like hotel bathrooms, in addition to regular cooking tutorials.

@barfly7777 With 2 6v batteries wired in series to an immersion beverage heater, one is able to get water scalding hot quickly. Raw shrimp will only need a few minutes. Adding instant mash to the shrimp water adds some extra flavor. "I got a terrible idea," he said in the video, which gained 807,000 views at the time of writing.

The one-minute video showed him going into the plane's bathroom, pulling out two large batteries, hooking them up to wiring, and preparing a small meal — shrimp with instant mashed potatoes — in the sink.

"With 2 6v batteries wired in series to an immersion beverage heater, one is able to get water scalding hot quickly. Raw shrimp will only need a few minutes. Adding instant mash to the shrimp water adds some extra flavor. Garlic butter makes everything go better," the video's caption said.

A representative for Delta Airlines told Business Insider that "Delta teams are aware of the video and are further looking into it."

Barfly7777 did not immediately respond to BI's request for comment made outside of regular business hours.

According to Delta Airlines' website, both non-edible and edible perishable items are allowed on its planes as part of carry-on baggage as long as there's "no violation of agricultural restrictions for the destination country."

Perishable items include fresh or frozen food as well as meat, fish, poultry, baking products, and flowers, according to Delta.

Regarding batteries, Delta's website says lithium-battery powered devices are allowed as carry-on or checked baggage. Spare lithium batteries are permitted as carry-on items only with "batteries individually protected to prevent short circuit." The guidelines also add that lithium batteries are capped at 160-watt hours per battery.

"Lithium ion batteries not installed in a device (spares) must be in carry-on baggage and no more than two (2) spares between 100 and 160-watt hours are allowed," the website read.

On TikTok, users were flabbergasted and wasted no time making jokes. Some users were skeptical of the video, wondering how barfly7777 pulled off the stunt, but it still became a topic of conversation into the weekend.

"No fly list coming in hot," one person wrote.

"Imagine being the next person to use the bathroom," another added.

The video also made it to X, formerly known as Twitter, where people were equally as confused.

"did you see? where the guy made garlic shrimp and mashed potatoes in the airplane bathroom? i didn't like that," one post with 34,000 likes said.

Plane etiquette is a popular topic on social media, where people have debated over various scenarios. Recently, a November TikTok video sparked a discussion about whether putting small personal bags in overhead bin space instead of underneath a seat is considered rude.
