Ina Garten says she's not much of a drinker despite going viral for her massive 9 a.m cosmopolitan
  • Ina Garten says she's all talk when it comes to alcohol despite going viral for her massive 9 a.m. cosmopolitan cocktail earlier this year.
  • Garten told Page Six that she spends more time talking about alcohol than actually drinking.
  • In April, Garten posted an Instagram video of herself making and drinking a cosmopolitan from a martini glass the size of her torso.

Ina Garten became a quarantine hero in April when she fixed herself a giant cocktail at 9 a.m., but the "Barefoot Contessa" star says she's really all talk when it comes to alcohol.

"I think I spend more time talking about cocktails than I do actually drinking them," Garten told Page Six's Nicki Gostin in an interview.

Early into coronavirus quarantine, Garten posted an instantly-classic video of herself making a cosmopolitan cocktail at 9 a.m

"Cocktail hour. It's always cocktail hour in a crisis!" she captioned the Instagram video, shared in April.

Garten's cosmopolitan recipe called for "good" vodka (Grey Goose for the celebrity chef), Cointreau, lime juice, and cranberry juice cocktail, all poured into a massive pitcher before being shaken up in an equally huge cocktail shaker. She then enjoyed her drink in a martini glass about the size of her torso.

Fans loved the video right away. One Twitter user said that "nothing is going to top" it. The Instagram video has 3.2 million views at the time of writing.

Insider food reporter Anneta Konstantinides even did a taste test of the cocktail recipe herself and wrote that she absolutely gets why Garten makes it at 9 a.m. in the morning, calling it the best drink she'd had in quarantine so far.

Viral moment notwithstanding, Garten says she's a fairly tame drinker

"I have a little glass of wine and that's basically all I need, and a cocktail once in a while," she recently told Page Six.

Garten has continued to post pictures of delicious treats, both sweet and savory, throughout the pandemic, including a number of small-batch recipes for her "micro Thanksgiving." Though alcoholic beverages only make the occasional appearance on her feed, Garten followed up the success of the giant cosmopolitan with a recipe for apple cider with bourbon — in a regular-sized glass this time.
