- Taco Bell's newest menu item are the Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries, which came out on Thursday.
- The dish features seasoned fries, grilled steak, cheddar cheese, and a special new TRUFF hot sauce.
The Mexican Pizza is finally back for good, but that's not the only exciting item returning to Taco Bell's menu.
I was among the many Taco Bell fans that rejoiced when the chain finally brought back the beloved Mexican Pizza earlier this year, delighting everyone from Doja Cat to Dolly Parton.
But there's a different menu item I think we should all be talking about. And, I have to confess, I love it even more than the Mexican Pizza.
Taco Bell's nacho fries are back, and this time they've been given a fun twist.
Nacho fries first appeared on Taco Bell's menu in January 2021, and they've been offered for limited stints ever since.
But on Thursday, the chain released a new version of nacho fries made in collaboration with TRUFF, a popular Southern California-based hot sauce brand that's beloved by Oprah (yes, that Oprah).
I tried the Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries on a recent visit to Taco Bell's headquarters.
I went to Taco Bell's headquarters in Irvine, California, to try six new menu items.
Some are still top secret (and getting tested as we speak), while others — like the Enchirito — will be released in November. The Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries are now available nationwide for the next two weeks.
The Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries come packed with plenty of ingredients ...
The $4.49 dish features Taco Bell's seasoned fries, which have been topped with grilled marinated steak, shredded cheddar cheese, fresh diced tomatoes, warm nacho cheese sauce, and reduced-fat sour cream.
… and a very special hot sauce.
Taco Bell and TRUFF worked together to create a new spin on the brand's classic Hotter Hot Sauce, which costs $17.98 on its website. As one Taco Bell representative pointed out to me, the collaboration gives hot-sauce lovers the chance to try a pricier high-end brand at a Taco Bell-level price.
If nacho fries aren't your thing but you're still intrigued, you can also add the special TRUFF sauce to any Taco Bell item for an extra dollar.
My Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries looked bright, bold, and colorful.
From the neon-orange fries to the bright-yellow cheddar cheese and white sour cream, the Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries definitely aren't shy.
And honestly, I wasn't really sure what to expect when I saw them for the first time. I've had some very soggy loaded fast-food fries, and I wondered if this dish would just have too many different flavors competing for my attention.
The Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries were the biggest — and best — surprise of the day.
I haven't loved a new Taco Bell item this much since the Grilled Cheese Burrito first came out in the summer of 2020. The Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries are delicious and memorable, and I want to order them every day before they disappear from menus.
To start, the fries were perfect. They still tasted crispy despite all that cheese and sauce on top, and the seasoning was full of flavor. The steak pieces were cooked nicely and their texture paired well with the fries. The TRUFF sauce was also packed with a delicious heat that wasn't overwhelming — I would happily use it on any of my favorite Taco Bell burritos instead of the chain's usual hot sauces.
I think every Taco Bell lover should try the Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries before they disappear from menus.
I've tested many new Taco Bell menu items in my time, but the Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries really blew me away. Even after trying six dishes, I couldn't resist finishing my entire plate of fries.
Since the Loaded TRUFF Nacho Fries are only available until supplies run out, Taco Bell has also released a new feature on its app that allows fans to track how much TRUFF sauce is left at their local Taco Bell restaurants (a genius move they should also use for the Mexican Pizzas).
But you can still get Taco Bell's original nacho fries once the TRUFF sauce is gone. They'll be available for $1.79 and served with a dippable warm nacho cheese sauce.
