I drive 2 hours to go to Sam's Club every month. Here are 10 things I always get there for my family.
I grab a few essentials every time I make the drive to Sam's Club.Rachael Brennan
  • I'm a mom who drives over an hour each way to pick up my family's favorite products at Sam's Club.
  • The Del Monte red grapefruit and Starbucks Pike Place ground coffee come in handy in the mornings.

There are multiple Costco and BJ's stores close to where I live, but the nearest Sam's Club is more than an hour away in Elmsford, New York.

Though it seemingly makes sense to join the warehouses closest to me, I've found that there are some things I can only find at Sam's Club.

The drive there and back is long, but my family of three doesn't require regular bulk shopping. I usually make the two-hour round trip once a month and spend an average of $250 each time I go to the warehouse.

Here are 10 things I always get at Sam's Club.

The Member's Mark loaded baked-potato soup is a family favorite.

Member's Mark baked-potato soup is a hearty dinner.      Rachael Brennan

A big pot of soup usually takes a long time to make, so I grab the Member's Mark version. The two-pack of baked-potato soup is easy to microwave and ready in just a few minutes.

It's delicious paired with crusty bread and a salad and the pack makes enough to have leftovers for lunch the next day.

This two-pack of Member's Mark loaded baked-potato soup was $8.50.

Del Monte red grapefruit cups are a tasty to-go snack.

The Del Monte red grapefruit is very sweet.      Rachael Brennan

I love to have a whole grapefruit for breakfast every morning, but when schedules get super busy, I prefer to grab a small cup of the fruit on the way out the door.

The Del Monte prepackaged grapefruit is less messy than trying to peel and eat a ripe fruit, which means it's easy to consume at a desk, in a hotel, or while waiting for the train.

One eight-pack of Del Monte red grapefruit was $9.30.

The La Terra Fina quiche makes a quick and easy meal.

I love eggs in the morning, and the La Terra Fina quiche is a great way to consume them.      Rachael Brennan

To minimize the time spent on what's usually a quite involved dish, I get premade La Terra Fina quiche. It's a quick heat-and-eat meal that's high in protein.

Better yet, this package comes with a classic quiche Lorraine and a cheddar-and-broccoli version, which means you get a little more variety than you normally do when buying in bulk.

A two-pack of La Terra Fina quiche was $14.50.

Yellow peaches are a delicious snack and great for baking.

I use yellow peaches to make cobbler.      Rachael Brennan

Yellow peaches are a perfect fruit to have with oatmeal, bake into a pie, or eat on their own.

Each box at Sam's Club comes with about nine peaches so I can make a delicious cobbler with enough left over so everyone in my family can have a whole fruit in their lunch the next day.

One 4-pound box of yellow peaches was $11.

Member's Mark boneless, skinless chicken thighs are a versatile protein.

The Member's Mark chicken works in almost any dinner recipe.      Rachael Brennan

Member's Mark chicken is flavorful, lean, full of protein, and basically the MVP of the Sam's Club meat department.

One of my favorite things to do with boneless, skinless chicken thighs is to cook them in the crock pot with a bottle of Buffalo sauce and ranch seasoning. I then shred the finished spicy chicken to add to soups, sandwiches, and quesadillas.

Member's Mark boneless, skinless chicken thighs usually cost about $3.30 per pound.

I add the Bunny-Luv baby carrots to roasts and soups.      Rachael Brennan

The Bunny-Luv baby carrots are one of my favorites because they're delicious, versatile, and affordable.

My husband loves to eat raw baby carrots with dip or salad dressing, but I prefer them cooked in pot roast or soup.

A 3-pound bag of the Bunny-Luv premium petite carrots was $4.30.

Member's Mark chocolate-chunk cookies come in handy when I need a dessert.

As a working mom, I don't always have time to put a batch of cookies in the oven, so I go for the Member's Mark chocolate-chunk version. Though nothing is as good as a homemade cookie, these are soft and chewy, with big pieces of chocolate.

They're perfect for a simple dessert or to put out for the kids when having a playdate, making them one of our favorite items to buy at Sam's Club.

An 18-pack of Member's Mark chocolate-chunk cookies was $7.50.

It isn't always easy to get kids to eat something healthy, but my preteen daughter loves the Taylor Farms Caesar salad.

The salad kits are also super affordable, which means I can make a healthy meal for my kid without breaking the bank.

A two-pack of Taylor Farms Caesar salad with chicken was $6.

Starbucks Pike Place ground coffee is my husband's go-to in the morning.

The Starbucks Pike Place ground coffee is my husband's absolute favorite.      Rachael Brennan

I don't drink coffee, but my husband has enough of the beverage for both of us and prefers the Starbucks Pike Place ground coffee.

Each morning, he brews a pot of coffee and pours himself a large cup with some 2% milk and a flavored syrup — right now, he prefers a pumpkin-spice flavor.

A 40-ounce bag of the Starbucks Pike Place roast coffee was $22.

Frank's RedHot original sauce is deliciously spicy.

I think almost everything tastes better with a little hot sauce, and my favorite is Frank's RedHot original cayenne-pepper sauce.

Frank's is great on hot wings, but I don't stop there. I happily put it in everything from soup to mac and cheese.

A two-pack of Frank's RedHot sauce was $8.50.
