The tennis player who wished "a bomb would explode" on the All England Club during his Wimbledon Championships loss to Tennys Sandgren has issued an apology, of sorts.
It all happened Saturday, when the Italian tennis player Fabio Fognini felt frustrated after his third round match was moved to Court 14, one of the smaller outside courts.
Fognini went on to lose in straight sets 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to Sandgren and could be heard saying in Italian "damned English," "I wish a bomb would explode on this club," and "a bomb should explode here," The Telegraph reports.
Leaning back in his chair in the post-match press conference, Fognini bemoaned the court and said he thought he "had a good chance to win."
As for an apology, Fognini said that "something happened on court," adding: "If somebody feels offended, I say sorry. No problem."
It is not the first time Fognini has courted controversy.
According to the BBC, he was fined $27,500 for "a series of offenses" in a first round match in 2014. Three years later, he used "misogynistic language" when talking to a US Open female umpire.
The Telegraph says Fognini now faces another fine from the All England Club.
The man who beat him, Sandgren, meanwhile advances into the fourth round of the competition where he takes on Sam Querrey on Monday.
