The Samsung Galaxy S9 retail box may have just leaked - and it reveals all of the phone's key features
- An image recently uploaded to Reddit could potentially be the Samsung Galaxy S9 retail box.
- The box gives away many details of the upcoming Galaxy S9.
- Samsung has confirmed the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled in February.
Samsung has already confirmed that it will announce its Galaxy S9 flagship in February, but that hasn't stopped interesting leaks from surfacing. A Reddit user on Friday shared an image they claim is the Galaxy S9 retail box.
The box potentially reveals several details about the Galaxy S9, including its camera, audio, storage and security features, among others. However, we cannot confirm whether or not the packaging is real, so take all of this information with a grain of salt.
Previous rumors indicated the Galaxy S9 would be very similar to the Galaxy s8 in terms of both design and specs. The leaked packaging also looks very similar to the Galaxy S8's box. While the image below looks extremely convincing, this could still be a Galaxy S8 box edited to look like a box for the Galaxy S9.
So far, it appears major updates on the Galaxy S9 may primarily focus on internal hardware and less so on design and special features. The Galaxy S9 may have nearly identical specs to the Galaxy S8, including its front and rear cameras, water resistance, iris scanner, and storage and memory capacities. The Galaxy S9 may also include AKG-branded headphones optimized for the device, similar to the Galaxy S8.
The main differences in the Galaxy S9, as the tweet above points out, would be the "super slow-mo" and "super speed" features for the rear camera, and the AKG-tuned stereo speakers. The relatively weak front-facing speakers were among people's biggest complaints with last year's Galaxy S8.
The Galaxy S9 is expected to have an edgeless "Infinity" display and no home button, also similar to the Galaxy S8. While the Galaxy S9 will likely have its fingerprint scanner on the back of the handset like the Galaxy S8, Samsung may move its placement for easier accessibility.
The Galaxy S9 is also said to take some inspiration from Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus by including a single lens camera on the standard Galaxy 9 model and a dual-lens camera on the larger Galaxy S9+ model. Recent reports also suggest the Galaxy S9 may feature Samsung's Exynos 9810 chip, which could power facial-recognition features similar to Apple's Face ID and Animoji on the iPhone X.
