The New York Mets have gone eight seasons since their last playoff appearance in 2006, spending more than $900 million on player salaries during that stretch. That's an average annual payroll of $114 million, the highest among any team that has not made the playoffs in the last four seasons.

However, the Mets are still nowhere close to the Toronto Blue Jays who have spent more than $1.4 billion on player salaries since their last playoff appearance in 1993. The Seattle Mariners, who last made the postseason in 2001, are the only other team with more than $1.0 billion in player payrolls since playing in the playoffs.

Here is a look at the 20 teams that did not make the playoffs last season and how much they have spent on player salaries since last making the playoffs.
