APThe New York Jets have released Tim Tebow, according to multiple reports.

It's not a surprise.

There were whispers that he'd be released immediately after his lone, tumultuous season in New York ended.

They were hoping that they could get something for Tebow in a trade before the draft, but when nothing materialized they had no choice but to let him walk for nothing.

It will cost them $1.5 million.

Even without Tebow, the Jets are stockpiling quarterbacks for the 2013 season. They now have Mark Sanchez, Greg McIlRoy, Matt Simms, David Garrard, and Geno Smith.

It's unclear where Tebow goes from here.

He succeeded in Denver when the entire offense was designed for his specific skillset. But he struggled last year when he was thrust into a more traditional offense.

He isn't an interchangeable part. Signing him means you'd have to design a Tebow-specific offense, which might be too much of a hassle for a backup quarterback.

All in all, the Tim Tebow experiment in New York was an unmitigated disaster, and it's everyone's fault.

The Jets never really put Tebow is a position to succeed. Even though there was talk of a revolutionary two-QB system during training camp, they only ran the most basic, uninspired wildcat plays for Tebow when the season rolled around.

Tebow, for his part, played terribly throughout the preseason and was irrelevant in his limited playing time.

So while it's true that the Jets never really gave him a chance, he didn't do anything to make them think he deserved one.
