Lexus had a pretty difficult time trying to get its hoverboard project off the ground.

The company released a video Tuesday showing just how challenging the whole process was.

From perfecting the science and designing a working board to building the skatepark, nothing about the endeavor was easy.

In fact, it took a total of 180 days before board development even started and more than 300 days before testing in the skatepark actually began.

"We had quite a few of ups and downs," said Atsushi Takada, general manager for brand management at Lexus International, in the video. "It's normal when you are trying to do something truly innovative."
