Stephen Craig Paddock, the gunman behind the worst mass shooting in modern US history, checked into a room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Los Vegas on Thursday.

On Sunday night, Paddock opened fire on a crowd of 22,000 people attending a country music festival being held at the Las Vegas Strip from hotel window on the 32nd floor. More than 50 people were killed, and more than 500 others were injured.

Paddock had 23 firearms with him when he checked into the hotel, according to police reports.

There have been few explanations for Paddock's motivations, and questions linger as to how he managed to transport the guns into his hotel room.

Here is what we do know about the hotel where Paddock spent his final days.
