The Jaguar XF Is Aimed At Youngsters But Is Perfect For The Matured

There are lot of luxury sedans out there on the Indian roads but nothing screams for attention like the Jaguars. We got behind the wheel of the Jaguar XF 2.2 litre diesel variant recently, took it out for a spin in the city and the highway. Here are the results.

Design
The 2014 version of the XF looks just like the earlier version and there is not much one can talk about. Except the single exhaust and subtle design changes. That’s about it on the exteriors. Interiors are no different either. You can find similar plush interiors, push button start system, popping out performance dial and auto roll up A/C vents.
The cabin is plush and something that you wouldn’t mind the chauffer driving, while you sit back and relax in the rear. One does get luxuries such as individual climate control, a new navigation system, aux port and steering mounted ICE controls. However, the interiors are not as exciting as the BMW’s or Mercedes. We always had the feeling of something missing.

Most of the things are well within the reach of the driver in the central console and is pretty easy to operate. The front passenger’s seat now has a button on the right side so that the rear passenger can press it and push the seat forward to gain extra leg room.

Performance
Jaguar has given this car a less powerful 2.2 litre diesel engine, which is not bad to drive. The 8 speed automatic transmission performs well and there is hardly any shift lag between gears. You end up getting a smooth ride. It can reach 100 KMPH from 0 in 8.5 seconds.

Giving this car a smaller engine did work in its favour, as that did keep the price low and also gives better fuel economy. Jaguar claims it can do 16.5 KMPL. Not bad for a car of this size. City driving is nice and the XF managed to take on most bumps and potholes with ease. Step on to the highway and the XF would open up quickly. The car is much grounded and you feel in complete control at high speeds.

Verdict
Jaguar was missing a car in the range of sub-50 lakhs and the XF 2.2 litre diesel variant comes across as the perfect answer. People do pause and ogle over this car. The design is spectacular and the price is not bad either. At 48.77 Lakhs (Ex-showroom) the Jaguar XF is a very decent buy. However, there are plenty in line from Mercedes, Audi and BMW to put the XF in a tough spot.
