The highest-paying companies in the US outside of tech

As Glassdoor community expert Scott Dobroski explains, with a shortage of highly skilled tech workers, these employers are in the midst of an aggressive war for talent. This, coupled with the extremely high cost of living around Silicon Valley, contributes to sky-high salaries.

Your only other options if you want to work at one of the highest-paying companies is to get into consulting or finance.

"Salaries are sky-high at consulting companies due to 'barriers of entry' in this field, which refers to employers wanting top consultants to have personal contacts, reputations, and specialized skills and knowledge," Glassdoor Chief Economist Dr. Andrew Chamberlain says. In other words, you get paid really well to be really good at what you do.

To compile its annual list, Glassdoor identified the 25 companies with the highest median total compensation - which includes base salary and other forms of income, such as commissions, tips, and bonuses - as reported by US-based employees on the Glassdoor website over the past year.
