Delhi Metro put on 'red alert' citing security threat after India abolished Kashmir's right to make its own laws

• Earlier today, India's Home Minister Amit Shah declared in Parliament that Article 35A and Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that gives special status given to Kashmir.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has put its entire network on red alert, soon after the government struck down Article 370 and 35a that gave special status to Jammu & Kashmir in India. The commuters will have to spend some extra time to go through the heightened security checks.


The authorities are taking extra caution to avoid any unforeseen incidents that can happen in the metro network which connects Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. They placed CISF troops, counter-terror reaction teams to ensure quick reactions to emergencies, reported Live Mint.

India's Home Minister Amit Shah declared in Parliament that Article 35A and Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that give special status given to Kashmir -- and rights to make its own laws-- will be struck down.

"The entire constitution will be applicable to Jammu and Kashmir state,” Shah said. In a subsequent order, India’s president approved the government’s changes.

According to orders issued by President, Ladakh will be a Union Territory (UT) without an assembly and Jammu, and Kashmir will be a second UT with an assembly.
