One of the greatest breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence was turned into a documentary called "AlphaGo" last year and the movie has just been released on Netflix.

"AlphaGo" is about an algorithm that learns how to play the ancient Chinese board game of Go to a superhuman level. The algorithm is built by a team of researchers in London that work for an AI lab called DeepMind, which was acquired by Google in 2014 for £400 million.

DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis retweeted a tweet from the official 'AlphaGo movie' Twitter account from Christmas Day that read: "Happy holidays everyone! Excited to announce that #AlphaGo Movie will be available to watch on #Netflix from 1st January 2018!"

The documentary, which currently has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 100% and an IMDb score of 8.5, sees South Korea's Lee Sedol (a Go world champion) take on an algorithm in a five match tournament in Seoul. He expects to beat the machine 5-0 or 4-1 at the very least but he loses every game of the match, leaving him completely bewildered.
