The curious case of Manmohan Singh

CBI court’s summon of the erstwhile Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh as an accused in the coal block allocation scam, popularly called Coalgate scam has been giving nightmares to the Congress party. The party president Sonia Gandhi has left no stones unturned to understand the way outs for Singh in the case.

Sonia is learnt to be consulting Kapil Sibal, former law minister Ashwani Kumar , Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mallikarjun Kharge among other legal minds of the country to challenge the court summons.

With Kapil Sibal and KTS Tulsi in defence, Manmohan Singh will appeal to the Supreme Court against the CBI summons.

Over 100 party leaders and MPs had joined Sonia in a ‘walk for support’ for Singh this morning in Central Delhi.

As reported by Reuters, Sonia who rarely speaks in public off the campaign trail, rallied to Singh's cause in apparent recognition of his loyalty to her family.
