The Cheapest MOTO (E) Is Not Bad At All [Review]

The price bracket of sub Rs 10K phones in India is dominated by Indian players such as Micromax, Karbonn and Lava. But,the tables might just turn with the new phone launched by Motorola. Called the Moto E it is the phone that is taking the fight to the Indian mobile manufacturers in the budget smartphone category.

Design
The design of the Moto E is nothing out of the ordinary. The bezel is quite similar to the elder brother Moto G, but this one is bulkier and thicker when compared to its sibling. Matte finish body works well for E and one can grip the phone easily. The unmarked power and volume rocker keys are well within reach, even if you are using it with one hand.

The phone has a 4.3-inch touchscreen that is brilliant to work with. More on that later. The back has a 5 MP camera (without flash) and there is no front camera. Well, to keep the costs low one has to take short cuts and reduce features. Available in a flurry of colours the phone is aimed at youngsters and teenagers. Moreover, the phone is quite rugged and could take a hard knock and still work.

Performance
Under the hood, this phone has the best configuration one could ask for in a budget phone. Moto E has a Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex A7 processor. It also has 1GB RAM, 4 GB internal memory and Adreno 302 GPU. All of this running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 chipset. Users can expand the memory by up to 32 GB using the expansion slot.

The 1,980 mAh (non-removable) battery on the Moto E gave us over 20 hours of battery life. Yes, we did play games and watched couple of long YouTube videos on it, hence less than a day. However, if you use it under nominal use, you will be able to get more than a day. Moto E also supports 3G and Wi-Fi.

Verdict
We loved reviewing the Moto E. Yes, it has less features like the missing front camera for selfies, but it makes up for it in the performance department. Moto E runs the latest Android KitKat OS and users will get the latest OS from Google as and when it comes (over the air).

As said before the screen is a treat to work with. Colours are vivid and characters are crisp. The screen responds well to every tap and swipe too. The phone comes with the most basic apps already installed on the system and more can be downloaded from the Play store. Sound could have been better, though. Keep the headphones handy if you are one those who likes to listen to music or watch movies often on your phone.

Moto E did a brilliant thing with the pricing. Moto E comes with an astonishing price tag of Rs 6,999, which is nothing short of a steal.
