The Carolina Panthers will win Super Bowl 50 (at least according to Madden NFL '16)
"The Lombardi trophy is heading to Charlotte, North Carolina," an announcer excitedly trumpets as Cam Newton and his teammates on the Carolina Panthers get ready to celebrate.
It's Super Bowl 50, and the Panthers manage to eke out a 24 - 20 win over the Denver Broncos.
At least that's what longtime football gaming franchise "Madden NFL" says will happen:
And that's not just a guess - it's a really, really educated guess, as "Madden NFL '16" is a simulation game more or less. The game's got the latest player stats and AI based around how each player actually plays. It may look like a video game, but it's as close to the real thing as it gets.
The simulation has gotten so good, in fact, that it accurately predicted the winning team and the game's final score for Super Bowl 49 in 2015!
So, what does it say for this year's big game?
If "Madden NFL '16" is to be believed, we're in for an exciting, razor's edge Super Bowl. Though the Panthers own much of the first half, with touchdowns by both Greg Olson and Ted Ginn, Jr., Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos more than make up for it in the latter half.
With just under one minute left on the clock, "Madden NFL '16" predicts that the Broncos lead the Panthers by three, at 17 - 20 Broncos.
In a miracle last minute play, Cam Newton takes the touchdown for himself and puts the Panthers up over the Broncos by four.
The crowd goes wild! But will that happen on Sunday night? Is a huge win for the Panthers in our future?
Cam Newton sure hopes so.
