France is one of the richest countries in the world, with a GDP per capita of $41,396 (£28,749).

Small countries continue to dominate the list of the richest countries in the world, while the top three remain unchanged from 2015, according to an analysis by Global Finance Magazine.

Based on data from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the magazine ranked the world's countries according to their gross domestic product (GDP) based on purchasing-power-parity (PPP) per capita.

The PPP takes into account the relative cost of living and the inflation rates of the countries in order to compare living standards between the different nations.

13 of the top 25 richest countries in the world are in Europe, while the United States and Canada also made the cut. The United Kingdom did not make the top 25, ranking at number 27 with a GDP per capita of $39,224 (£27,241).

Some small territories, such as Liechtenstein, Nauru, Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino and Andorra were not included in the study.

The GDP per capita listed represents the amount of wealth produced in 2015 and is expressed in international dollars.
