Hello! Here's what you need to know on Wednesday.

1. Republican Indiana Governor Mike Pence "won" the US vice presidential debate by pretending Donald Trump doesn't exist. Viewers thought Democrat Tim Kaine did better defending his running mate than Pence.

2. A focus group watching the vice presidential debate rated Republican nominee Mike Pence's defense of supposedly "deplorable" Americans as one of the best moments. A GOP pollster who was overseeing the focus group said it was perhaps the "KO punch" of the debate.

3. Google has announced its first smartphone, called Pixel. Google claims the Pixel's 12.3-megapixel camera is the best on any smartphone.

4. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said a ceasefire with FARC rebels will end on October 31. Both sides are scrambling to find a solution to the half-century conflict after voters rejected a peace deal.

5. Salesforce is reportedly the top bidder for Twitter. Twitter is the all-important source of data for many areas that Salesforce plays in: sales, marketing, and customer support.

6. The polling surge Hillary Clinton was expected to obtain after the first US presidential debate has arrived. A series of new polls suggest the Democratic nominee is increasing her national lead.

7. UK Independence Party leader Diane James has stepped down after just 18 days in the job. Her shock resignation was prompted by a number of factors, including a lack of support from UKIP MEPs and personal attacks against her.

8. A North Korean embassy official in Beijing has defected, according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency. A separate report suggested two embassy staff had sought asylum with the Japanese mission there.

9. Oxford University is addressing sexual assault by making consent classes mandatory. "We're aiming to break taboos, start a conversation and dispel myths about sexual violence,"Orla White, vice president for women at Oxford University's student union, said.

10. Even employees at Venezuela's state-run oil giant PDVSA are struggling to pay for everything from food and bus rides to school fees, as triple-digit inflation eats away incomes.
