1. The International Monetary Fund, one of Greece's three main creditors, admitted Thursday that Greece needs debt relief - an argument that the Greek government has made throughout bailout deal negotiations.

2. Greek banks are down to their last €500 million (£355 million, $554 million) ahead of a Sunday referendum in which Greeks will vote on whether to accept a bailout program negotiated with the country's creditors.

3. British oil company BP has reached a deal with the US government to pay $18.7 billion (£11.9 billion) to settle claims from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, representing the largest environmental settlement in American history.

4. Nearly 150 people, including women and children, were killed Thursday in suspected Boko Haram attacks in northeastern Nigerian villages, the most violent day since since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in May.
