Tesla has made its semi-autonomous driver-assistance system, Autopilot, a standard feature on Model 3 sedans ordered in China, Electrek first reported.

"We periodically adjust available options, packages, and pricing to maximize value and make our vehicles even more affordable for customers," a Tesla representative told Business Insider.

Autopilot costs $5,000 for Tesla vehicles ordered in the United States if purchased before delivery and $7,000 if purchased after delivery. It costs around $6,800 for vehicles ordered in China before delivery and around $9,600 after delivery.

Autopilot can keep a car in its lane, adjust its speed based on surrounding traffic, recommend lane changes, navigate transitions between highways, and take exits with driver supervision, among other features, though Tesla says the driver must monitor the vehicle and be ready to take control of it when using Autopilot.

Tesla will begin delivering the Model 3 to China and Europe during the first quarter. During Tesla's third-quarter earnings call in October, the automaker's CEO, Elon Musk, cited the prospect of European and Chinese deliveries as a reason why he did not anticipate the gradual expiration of a federal tax credit for electric vehicles to have a significant impact on Model 3 sales.
