Telecom towers in India are getting a complete make-over
Smallbusiness1 min read

The country's largest telecom tower company Indus Towers is all set to erect 500 new-generation towers across 50 cities in next one year. The company has announced its nationwide initiative of aesthetic sites. These new sites are completely camouflaged sites where the tower is constructed in such a way that it looks like a palm tree or an electric pole and these fancy telecom towers are powered through electricity, with battery storage as back up.

As part of the Digital India and Smart Cities programmes, the company said it is bringing new-age infrastructure to the country, Bimal Dayal, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Towers said, "With our focus on innovation that enables transformation and belief in Design Thinking approach, where we develop a solution basis customer needs, Aesthetic Sites roll-out is a great testimony in this direction"

Currently Indus operates in 15 telecom circles and so far the company has already set up 100 towers with an investment of around Rs 25 crore in all 15 circles and are looking to invest around Rs 100 crore to set up 500 such sites in 50 cities across the country.

Also with these modern aesthetic sites, the company is hoping to increase voice and data capacity in congested areas in an effort to reduce call drops and improve data coverage.

Importantly, Indus aims to go completely off diesel for backing up towers and has installed energy saving initiatives like free cooling units, natural cooling units, solar power etc. The tower company has already converted over 55,000 sites into green sites.
