Ted Cruz scores another win against Donald Trump
CNN, CBS News, and The Associated Press projected early Saturday evening that Cruz would win the Kansas Republican caucuses.
Though a lack of reliable public polling made the contest difficult to handicap, Trump was expected to perform well there.
Trump campaigned in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday morning, and a relatively recent poll of the state found that Trump had a small lead over Cruz.
Cruz has performed well so far in caucuses, which require voters to show up at a specific time and stay longer than traditional primary elections. Cruz previously defeated Trump in the Iowa and Alaska caucuses, as well as the primary races in Oklahoma and his home state of Texas.
Cruz also held an lead early Saturday evening in the Maine caucuses, another state where Trump was expected to do well. Kentucky's caucuses and the Louisiana primary will also weigh in on the primary Saturday.
Multiple wins this weekend would boost Cruz's argument that he, not fellow Sen. Marco Rubio, is the leading non-Trump candidate in the primary race.
